Collect All The Necessary Supplies

Tend to your fish one or two days before the shift, but gather the accessories in advance. The number of items to be purchased depends on how big your tank is. The number of fish contained within is also a deciding factor on the same. Make a checklist of the required supplies so that you do not skip on anything important. The common list of things required for the move includes a fishnet, a few plastic bags, boxes, a siphon house, packing tapes, huge containers with lids, and bubble wraps. Make sure to purchase the buckets with almost 5-gallon storage capacity.

Get Your Fish Ready For The Move

Stop feeding the fish two days before moving out. You will not need to replace the water if you do so. Fish can stay healthy without food for some days. Fish can come under pressure very quickly which may affect their health. Move them into the plastic bags or buckets just before you leave the house. Drain out all the water from the tank into the buckets. Never forget to leave behind the air on the top. Pet shops also provide oxygen in the plastic bags for your fish. Use the fishnets to place the fish in their respective bags or buckets. You can only place a maximum of 4 fish in a bucket to prevent suffocation. Each plastic bag can contain about one to two fish. Tape the lids of the buckets.

Wrap Up The Additional Aquarium Fittings

Remove the decorations and dry them up. You cannot wrap them up when damp. Carefully take out the water plants and keep them in a bucket filled up with the water from the aquarium. Use bubble wrap to protect the lights and another décor from getting damaged. If your tank contains pebbles, clean them and keep them free of any sand particles. Pay attention to the heater, lights, and filter. Seal the accessories and prepare them for the pack-up. Drain out the excess water as your tank should be dry before the wrap-up.

Protect The Tank Using The Right Packing Method

Choose the right-sized box for placing your fish tank. Fill up the empty spaces to prevent the tank from moving around. Use blankets to pack the tank. You can also give the tank a bubble wrap for further security. Pack it in such a way that it does not undergo any breakage during the travel. Avoid loading the tank onto the truck. If you find it difficult to manage the pack up on your own, let the packers and movers help you with the work.

Attend The Fishes As Soon As You Reach The Destination

Ignore all the other work and set up the tank once your reach the new place. Arrange all the decorations and place the sand and pebbles back into the aquarium. Only once everything is set up perfectly add water into the tank. Wait for some time before turning on the pump and heater and let the water get back to room temperature. Place the fish back carefully. Your fish may take some time to get adjusted to the new environment. Monitor them for the next 24 hours to check for any illnesses.
