Sanitation has always been critical, but it is more important than ever during this pandemic. It is the process that eliminates, destroys, or deactivates all types of life like microorganisms, bacteria, spores, and other biological agents from a specific surface, material, or fluid, such as food or biological culture means.

Heat, chemicals, irradiation, high pressure, and filtration are all examples of sterilization methods. Disinfection and sanitization vary from sterilization in that they aim to reduce rather than ending all forms of biological and life agents.

When to sterilize your home

  • Clean high-touch surfaces on a regular basis (e.g., daily) and after guests have visited your home.
  • High-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, chairs, handles, light switches, and countertops, are a good place to start.
  • Clean other surfaces in your home as required or when they are clearly dirty. If members of your household are more susceptible to COVID-19, clean them more often.
  • Clean surfaces with a product that is appropriate for each surface, following the product label’s instructions.

Sterilizing and Disinfecting on Variety of Surfaces

Couch Surfaces

  • Carpets, rugs, and drapes are examples of soft surfaces.
  • Soft surfaces like carpets, rugs, and drapes should be cleaned with soap and water or cleaners designed for these surfaces.
  • If possible, wash products in the warmest water environment possible and dry them.
  • As normal, vacuum. Wear a mask while vacuuming an area that has been used by a sick person or someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Laundry

  • Use the warmest water setting possible and dry the products.
  • It is safe to wash dirty laundry from someone who has been exposed to other people’s belongings.
  • Wear gloves and a mask while handling dirty laundry from a sick person.
  • Clean clothes hamper or laundry baskets in accordance with surface cleaning instructions.
  • After handling dirty laundry, wash your face.

Electronics

  • Consider using a wipeable cover on electronics to make sterilization simpler (such as phones, laptops, touchscreens, keyboards, and remote controls).
  • Sterilizing the electronic system should be done according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Steam cleaning is the best method of sterilization. It’s a good idea to keep track of what needs to be cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized, as well as how it’s done. Determine who is in charge of ensuring that washing, disinfection, and sterilization are completed. Ensure that staff is competent in washing, disinfection, and sterilization, as required, by providing adequate guidance, information, and training.
